Web Editor & Archivist
The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, the largest locally owned newsgathering organization in northeast Indiana, is looking for a Web Editor & Archivist. The individual who fills this part-time job will play a key role in our newsroom.
Primary responsibilities include helping to post local and national content on our website and social media channels, archiving local content and ensuring our published material is protected by copyright. The individual may occasionally be asked to help other employees in our organization with some research and to help with the collection of information to assist the newspaper in reporting outcomes in elections.
The job requires:
• Excellent time management and flexibility
• Strong communication skills in working with and responding to other newsroom editors and staff.
• Ability to courteously field and manage occasional calls from newspaper readers.
• Good news judgment and ability to appropriately update the placement of stories on our website to accommodate the most significant breaking news.
• Willingness to learn new systems and technology that could improve operational efficiencies.
• Organizational skills to, as needed, categorize, and catalog library resources to make them easily accessible.
• Purchasing and disposing of materials as necessary, such as ink cartridges and paper for photo and page reprints requested by the public.
Work schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday mornings to early afternoon.
Candidates with previous experience with newsroom libraries and online research
are preferred.
